This movie… is the best! The sequel/prequel (depending on where you’re referring to) of Death Note (Desu Noto) and Death Note: The Last Name. That’s all that needs to be said. But I’m going to say more!

L: Change the WorLd brings back  the character “L” Lawliet played by Shin’ichi Matsuyama. The movie portrays the last 23 days of his life. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Please refer here: Desu noto and Desu noto: the last name (2006) (please remember not all the information of the movie is here. I do this so I don’t give away the movie for you. It does however give you a hint. Last Name? L’s last 23 days? get it?). Now I don’t want to tell you what happens in the movie, so I won’t. I really want you guys to see this! Please, do not let the subtitles hinder you from seeing this masterpiece please. A true movie lover will never let such a prize go unseen.

Now, you’re probably saying, how were you able to see this if it hasn’t been released in the USA? Well, It was released on DVD in Japan in February. So I snatched it… from a friend. Nothing illegal I promise. Just a borrowing of sweets.

Matsuyama was flawless in portraying his character “L”. The movie is somewhat sentimental as you already know the fate of our beloved L Lawliet, but you are glad to see him once again, If only for a short time. The great thing about this movie is, it answers all the questions and suggestions we have for our sweet-eating L.

The slouch, the distant attitude, the “where’s the love!?”, and also the “don’t you care about your life?” prospect of L was all successfully answered without a hitch.

The movie keeps your attention the whole time. You would never want to pause, stop or even blink. It smooths your attention with sweet and gentle pets of admirations and gets you HOOKED.

The young character who is mostly known as “BOY” throughout the movie was overall superb. He didn’t speak much. But whatever he did say was told in very VERY adorable english.  It was hinted at that he spoke no japanese and possibly didn’t even understand it, for F and L spoke to him mostly in sexy english.

The character Maki who is played by Mayuko Fukuda was overall brilliant. She had her “wtf?!” moments, but it rolled the plot along and was brilliant performed. She held on the strong persona her darling character was known for and she didn’t flinch at all in her acting.

I won’t go into much detail for I’ll ruin the “juicyness” for you all. But I enjoyed this movie so much. Forget your qualms. Forget all reviews, even mine, and just see the movie. I implore you. Hideo Nakata is a genius and his work should be seen by all.

I loved this movie so much. No matter if it made me teary-eyed. I will never want it any other way.
